NEW GOLF RULES AND MEDAL DIVISIONS

As most of you are aware there will be rule changed as from 1 January 2019 - below are a few of the key changes.

Also with the implementation of the new Handicap Index (HI) system Golf RSA and Womens Golf SA have changed the Division parameters for Medal Competitions - see below:

HAWS GOLF DAY - 19th October 2018

‘The 4th annual charity golf day in aid of Hermanus Animal Welfare Society run by Cheryl Richardson, was held on 19 October this year.   The weather was kind to us and a full field of 136 players enjoyed a great day of golf and fun.  Remax created a festive scene on the practice putting green with a ‘boerie braai’ and Spookfontein and Wildekrans did wonderful wine and MCC tastings for the players.
The dining tables were filled with origami flowers, cats, dogs, mice and hedgehogs which were all sold in aid of HAWS.
The day was a great success and a record R108 000 was raised for the very worthy charity which cares for sick, abused, neglected and abandoned animals in the greater Overstrand area.
Cheryl expressed her gratitude on behalf of HAWS to all the wonderful sponsors and people who donated to the cause, as well as to the players who participated in the day.
Below a couple of pictures from the day which was won by  Sheana Bennett, Carole Brownlee and Pippa and Les Adams.’

DAYSH CUP - 3rd November 2018

The 2018 Daysh Cup

Did you know......The Daysh Cup was presented to Hermanus Golf Club by Miss M McLennan, in memory of a friend, Madeline Elsie Daysh. Mrs Daysh was responsible for organizing the first British Golf Team to South Africa and was respected as a distinguished Golfer
Miss ‘Tommy’ McLennan was a member at Hermanus in the early years, and the first Daysh Cup was played in 1948.  It was apparently started as a sort of ‘Thank You’  Country tournament, to be held at Hermanus to invite all the clubs in the Western Province to play, as a reciprocal gesture for all the invites from them to their tournaments. - Thank you Cheryl Richardson for this editorial

On the day 2018.... This year was the 70th Anniversary of the Daysh and the 36-hole Tournament held on Sat 3 Nov went off very successfully.  17 clubs from the Boland and Western Province participated in teams of 4 with 128 players in total. They played Better Ball in the morning and Greensomes  in the afternoon.  The weather was fantastic albeit a little warm and the course was presented very well with smooth, fast-running greens.  A great time was had by all and a sociable evening with dinner enjoyed afterwards.

And the winners .....The overall winners of the Daysh Cup (The Tommy McLennan Trophy), were Devonvale B1 and B2 on 164 points, one point more than Parow A1 and A2 who were runners up. The Best Couple all day was Devonvale B2 on a fantastic 88 points with Westlake B2 taking the runner up prize on 87.
